About Dr. Majid Sharifi-Tehrani
Dr. Majid Sharifi-Tehrani embarked on his journey in computer science in 1991, beginning with programming on a C64 system using the Basic V2 language.
After earning a science-based diploma, he entered the Plant Science program and was also admitted to Azad University of Isfahan for Software and Hardware Engineering.
By 1994, Majid advanced to programming with GW-Basic and QuickBasic languages on a 386-based PC. His first notable programming experience was in scientific computing—enhancing and improving a Vegetation-Ecology program introduced by his professor, Dr. Ahmad Aryavand.
In 1997, Majid transitioned to programming with Visual Basic 3.0 on Windows 3.1. He developed IRIS, the first-ever Windows-based conference management software, at Isfahan University in 1998. Recognized as a novel software by IROST, IRIS received certification and was successfully utilized in seven national and international conferences, congresses, and symposia over two years.
Majid shifted to database software programming in 2009, creating SKUBioDigiArchive (based on MS Access) for department management during his tenure as manager of the Biological Department at Shahrekord University. He also developed various database solutions in response to requests from faculty Deans, including a database for tracking chemicals in laboratories, a simple accounting system for faculty orders, and maintained the Faculty of Science's website.
Continuing his contributions to database programming, Majid led the development of the iHerbs project (later renamed Alamut), a national floristic database containing and analyzing hundreds of thousands of species occurrence records collected over 30 years. The database extends into neighboring countries, showcasing his commitment to advancing systematic botany.
In 2021, Majid began learning VB.Net, C#, and SQL Server systems, enabling him to design new desktop applications, including eLib (an electronic library), NexTerm (educational planning software), and Alamut ver2 (featuring a server-based database). More recently, Majid has moved to ASP.NET Core Razor Pages, where he developed a residential accounting management web application, showcasing his expanding expertise in web development.
Looking ahead, he plans to continue broadening his technical skill set by learning .Net Core to create multi-platform applications.
Dr. Majid Sharifi-Tehrani earned his PhD in Plant Systematics from Isfahan University in 2008. His pioneering work spans science, software development, and systematic botany.
